Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) at Timehri is Guyana’s main international gateway, about 40 km south of Georgetown on the East Bank of the Demerara River. It is a compact airport, so once you know the order of things, getting from the plane to the car is quick and easy.

1. Immigration

After you leave the aircraft, follow the signs to immigration. Have your passport ready, along with your return or onward ticket and the address where you are staying — officers often ask for these. Check the latest entry requirements with your airline before you fly, as forms and rules can change.

2. Baggage claim

Baggage reclaim is right after immigration. Late-night flights from North America and the Caribbean can be busy, so allow a little time. If your bag doesn’t arrive, report it at the airline’s baggage desk before you leave the hall and keep the file reference number they give you — our Lost Baggage Recovery service can collect it and bring it to you later.

3. Customs

Take your bags through customs. Declare anything you are required to declare; officers may ask to inspect luggage. Then you walk out into the arrivals hall.

4. The arrivals hall and your ride

Outside customs you will find people waiting for passengers and drivers offering rides. If you booked with ArrivalsRidesGY, your driver is waiting with a sign showing your name. We track your flight, so an early or late landing is not a problem.
